To get to Kodai, you need to goto Bathlagundu/ Ghat road from Madurai or Kodai Road.

Madurai to Ghat road takes 2 hours.
Kodai Road to Ghat Road takes 30 to 45 minutes.

From the Ghat Road in Bathlagundu to Kodaikanal takes 3 to 4 hours by bus....

Take the straight bus from madurai or Kodai road. Saves a lot of hassle because the buses are always crowded if you alight in Ghat Road.

If you travel from Madurai to Kodaikanal, you need to cross Kodai Road or atleast go through a rod which is about 5 Kms away from Kodai Road. The buses from Madurai, usually do not touch Kodai Road and they take the other Road.

You have frequent buses from Madurai to Kodaikanal i.e. one bus at every 30 mins or so. It takes about 3 to 3 1/2 hours from Madurai. You can reduce about 45 mins to 1 hour while travelling from Kodai Road.

In Kodai Road, while taking Taxi, be sure that he is not taking more persons than yours and he is decent enough. Bus is safe. State owned buses are much safe. If you insist of Taxi, then book a taxi from a well known travels at Madurai. (Not from Kodai Road)

Distance between Kodai Road (Railway Station) and Kodaikanal, the Hill Station, is about 85 Kms. The bus journey takes more than 3 hours but the route is just beautiful, specially if you take the early morning bus. The journey from Madurai to Kodai is 1 hour more but the journey is more on the plains, so you won't enjoy it much. Its preferable that you alight at Kodai Road itself and take the earliest bus to Kodaikanal. Kodi is better than Oooty and you will not regret choosing it as your holiday destination.
