No, I do not believe that English people are unfriendly to foreigners. I traveled to London last summer and all the English people I met were quite pleasant. In fact, they were so nice that I never wanted to leave. They are no different from any other people.

Yes some English people can be unfriendly to foreigners but generally not - look at our immigration system, we're very welcoming.
However, I think you'll find that English people don't have much patience with foreign people particulalry when language barriers and strong accents are involved.

English people are all very different. As you move around the country you find the people change, the way they talk, the food they eat and even the way they treat others.
If you go to London you will find that the people there are very offish with each other in general but if you hang around long enough to become a part of a group of people you will find that they are then very solid and helpful people. Also, probably some of the best people to be around when things go very wrong as the English keep their heads in an emergency and tend to minimise the problem.

brits can come accross as unfriendly a_ because of the society we live in. We live in horribly cramped circumstances - too many people live here and then you only have so much space to live unless you are mega wealthy. b which sorta goes with a - the roads are constantly crowded, the trains and underground too - so yeah we are a grumpy lot cuz of this. (Dont foget the weather too - we suffer badly from cold winters.) But I bet ya if you go to New York you will find exactly the same kinda attitutde. On the whole I reckon new yorkers are just as friendly and accomodating as any brit would be.

from someone who is a Brit and travels extensively. I can say that on average British people are rude and unfriendly, Im also an English teacher and have studied culture academically, and culture is basically a programming. Now, in an individualist culture orientation is self-centered, thus, why we lack community, now in communitarian cultures orientation is on others, not a me me me culture, people are much nicer. But having said that other European countries behave nicer. Go to Thailand then you see how nice people are.......

I find that they can be very rude to foreigners or anyone they regard as foreign.
There are many ignorant people in the UK, who think they are better than some people due to the colour of their skin. I think a lot of people need an education in tolerance

Wow, shoopy old man, you sound like you come from Hillary's New York! I've been to the UK 27 times in the last two years and love it. People are great only problem is the pubs have a lousy selection of vodka.

The English can be pretty unpleasant to Americans (often for good reason) in and around London, but they get friendlier the farther north you go. Try the Lake District.

One can never generalize like this. My experience was that the English people in England were very friendly. But I still cannot generalize from my experience.
