I have never used a tampon before and I do gymnastics and other sports and pads are way to uncomfortable for me. My mom has no clue about tampons, she has never worn tampons in her life and same with my sister, she said I could use tampons but my mom and sister decided they would stick with pads. No pun intended. I will be in the eigth grade and I have had my period for a while now. The instructions weren't very helpful. I want personal experience please...?

I have a heavy flow. What type should I use? Playtex, Kotex, Tampax? Heavy, Super, Light?

I want to wear tampons because going down into a split with a pad on is not comfortable at all. Also, I like to swim...and I can't swim on my period with a pad.

I applaud your willingness to learn more. I agree that tampons are a big help for sports like gymnastics and swimming.
Playtex makes a line of tampons called Slimfits. The tampon AND applicator are smaller (more narrow in diameter) than any other on the market. I strongly recommend these for starters. Even though they are smaller they still absorb as much blood. The FDA sets the rules for how much a tampon absorbs to be called a regular or super. So, a regular in one brand will hold/absorb the same as a regular in another brand.
Learn your anatomy independent of trying a tampon. Insert your finger (wash your hands first) and feel the contour of your vagina while standing (or sitting) in the same position you intend to use for tampon insertion. The key here is to realize how your vagina slants toward the lower back AND to help teach your body not to tense up the muscles.
Learn the tampon independent of using it. Practice holding it and even pushing the tampon out.
When you have done both of the above you are ready to try a tampon again. Tampons are easier (at first especially) on havier flow days.
Take your time. Be sure you insert the applictor up to the finger grip before you push the tampon into your vagina.
Once it is inside you should NOT feel it. If you continueb to feel it then go ahead and remove it and try another. This just means it was not in far enough.
Let me know if you have any additional questions

playtex is really great i would suggest the super flow and u should alternate between pads and tampons when your home its not good to always wear only tampons as u would know if you read the instructions. so u wanna be in a comfortable position in the bathroom place one leg up on the bath tub( and oh u should really buy the ones that come with the plastic aplicator the other ones suck. anyway so with the leg up hold the tamon in one hand the playtex aplicator should be like a pink color so hold it by the beral like it shows in the first picture, then put it in until ur fingers reach the bottom of the baral and push the tampon in and take out the aplicator. good luck and if it feels uncomfortable it means that u didn't put it in all the way so take it out and try again. and after a while u wont even know ur wearing one :)

practice with the smaller ones first, but you will probably need the super ones if your flow is heavy. spread you vagina and push the applicator (with tampon inside) in about halfway, and then use the applicator to push the tampon in further. you just have to relax and not be afraid to push, but stop if it really does hurt. i had this problem also, and relaxing was the biggest help.

I like Tampax tampons personally. And if you look inside the box it has pictures and instructions on how to apply a tampon.

i think u should start with the smaller ones.however,if u are very athletic, there may be chances that your vagina might have become more elastic as the hymen must have been somewhat torn so there must be no much of the problem.if u want to consider more advise on these and other adoloscent issues, you may contact me.

I used to use o.b. because they were easier to insert. If you lubricate them with vaseline first they will slide in. And because there is no applicator you guide it yourself which makes it easier to place.
Start with a smaller size and see how you get on and go from there.
Good luck!
