is a motion, made before the start of a trial requesting that the judge rule that certain evidence may not be introduced to the jury in a trial.

A case is not heard "in limine"; a MOTION is. It's presented to the judge at the beginning of a trial, so the jury won't hear certain things that might prejudice them and cause them to be unfair in their findings.
