My husband and i just saw it and I think it is the coolest Anime we have ever seen.

I'm a huge fan of Final Fantasy 7, and I live in Japan. I noticed Final Fantasy: advent children for sale at the convenience store and thought it was a game for awhile until I learned enough Japanese to ascertain it was a movie! Seeing as how it cost roughly 50 dollars and was sold exclusively at convenience stores, I downloaded it instead. I couldn't get and English subtitled version, so I watched it in Japanese and did the best I could to understand it. So here's my breakdown:
Are you a big fan of traditional anime with lots of battles and speeches about hatred? Then advent children is for you! Personally I liked The Spirits Within better, and it may have been because I could actually understand it all. It was cool to see all of my favorite characters again in the movie, but the only characters that the story really focuses on are Cloud, Tifa and Vincent. The rest are only there for the final battle, which lasts like a half an hour and was a big reason for why I didn't like the movie as much. Overall, it was too action oriented.

I loved Advent Children over Spirits Within in every way possible. Spirits Within, in trying to create a new world, characters, etc, didn't give us the in-depth story we love in FF. Take your standard FF game.. You play for 40+ hours and learn about the characters in a lot of ways over that time (even if it's not all story, even the quirks of how a character acts when they win a battle build their personality). Spirits Within lost that. Advent Children was a highly entertaining movie, with better graphics (though I still greatly admire and respect what Spirits Within did at its time), and characters we already knew and loved - so the story could progress without telling us what we were watching.

FYI, its not an anime, its computer generated. And, Advent Children is ENTIRELY different compared to Spirits Within. Advent is Japan, Spirits is American. 'nuff said.

advent children is way ahead compare to the spirit with in..i watch it 3 times..i agree with you it is the coolest anime i have seen..

It's not really that connected to the Spirit Within...But yes, it'really cool! I'm not surprised to see that 5 years from now we'll be seeing a lot of cooler movie with technology like ours..lol...

I bought the DVD and I cried, it was so beautiful!! The art and animation was rendered beautifully and I loved the plot. It ran rings around Spirit's Within!! That one just sucked bigtime but this one is classic!!

i liked spirit within...seemed like there was too much inside stuff if you didnt play ff7, which i didnt, so the characters were a little foreign to me
