This is probably going to be dominated by John Williams, but, that's deservedly so. There is no question he is the greatest film composer who ever lived. My vote goes for Superman, but I would also throw in James Horner's Braveheart score, which is incredible and , of course, Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Star Wars and Indiana Jones by John Williams are two of the best. Horner has done some really good pieces too. I like braveheart but I think the music to Titanic and The Perfect Storm were better. Lord of the Rings was good but that was about Howard Shores only good work. I like Hans Zimmers work as well but it is a very different stile from the others.

I also really liked a piece of music called Rusticana Cavallerina Intermezzo- from the opening credits of Raging Bull

oh yeah- I can't forget Conan the Barbarian- yikes!!!

If you're talking about a truly *classical* score, there was a movie called The Four Seasons with Alan Alda that used Vivaldi's Four Seasons perfectly.

braveheart has a very moving score but really there are so many great movie scores out there its impossible to single out just one. back to the future had a good score too, you also mentioned Raiders..the list could be endless
