I don't know, but would be interested to find out. I think it's a cop-out to say it comes from your parents. Thanks x

People are stubborn because they are too proud to back down. This relates to their self esteem. Stubborn people have a lack of self esteem and this causes them to worry about damaging their pride. If they back down, its like accepting defeat and recognising the other person's superiority. This is why they will conintue to be stubborn, holding their ground often when they know they are actually wrong.

If I think I'm right about something and stand my ground until I've proved it, does that make me stubborn? I don't think so. I think it makes me tenacious. Most of the people I consider stubborn will stand their ground when even they know they're wrong. That's not just stubborn, it's stupid.

Perhaps it comes from their past interactions with others (parents among them) where their M.O. was to stubbornly hold their ground until the opposition gave up out of sheer frustration. *shrug* Stupidity aside, I could see it making for a pretty good bluff.

In my case it is hereditary... comes with the red hair. *L*

Being raised by alcoholic parents where nothing in life is predictable or secure. You hang on, build a wall around yourself, and become insolated from the world (and people) around you. It is disgusting behavior, at best. Being stubborn finally drives away family and friends resulting in a very lonely existence. Those of us who try to deal with ridiculously stubborn people who refuse to recognize what they are doing, finally reach the point that we say "what s the use...why bother...is there any benefit in continuing to debate everything to death with no positive outcome?" That s when we turn away and resume our lives with less difficult people! If you re stubborn as a mule and rational enough to recognize it, do something to change your patterns and get a life!

Pride is the root cause of stubbornness. It causes you to do or not do everything around stubbornness. Take away the "foolish" pride (notice I said foolish, because there is nothing wrong with pride), and you remove the stubbornness.

I think the root cause of stubbornness is being alive. Something about oxygen must do it.
