Disconnect your battery and then hook it back up. It's just that on the newer versions of vehicles the computers are more technical than they need be.

With Chevy, once problem is fixed, disconnect positive battery cable for about 15 minutes. That will reset the computer. Probably same with Ford. Or call the Ford house and ask for the Service Dept. Make sure you are speaking with a Service writer and not just a receptionist.

How about getting your engine serviced. Usually it means you are due for an oil change. When you get the necessary service done the mechanic will reset the light.

Disconnecting battery cable SOMETIMES works. Fool-proof soulution is to get a cheap OBD2 scanner (cheapest - $50 or so).
Keep in mind: resetting the SES light does not eliminated the condition that had it set in the first place, and the light will come back after the malfunction occurs three starts in a row.

If the problem has been resolved, you will need to take it to a shop that has a diagnostic scanner and they can reset the code for you. If there is still something wrong with it, when they hook it to the machine, it will throw a code and let them know what is ailing it. It will not go off until the problem is fixed and the code box has been reset.

Get a black marker and cover up the service light icon. Now it's permanently reset ;-) LOL

You can buy an OBDII scanner and print/reset the engine codes yourself.

Depending on where you live both AAMCO and Cottman are running promotions where they check the light for free.

Autozone can do that for you. If it comes back on, you do actually have problem that needs to be fixed. They can tell you what that is too. It's free, too.
