Good chance your Dad was right. When they check batteries, they can determine whether the battery has a full charge, but unless they have more sophisticated equipment they can't tell if the battery has a bad cell (or two, or three). Besides, replacing the battery is a cheaper fix than taking the car in to have the electrical system checked, and when you're dealing with cars you always want to try the cheapest fix first. Give it a while and see if you still have trouble starting your car. I bet you won't.

Sounds like a dead cell in the battery or the bushings in the starter are giving out. If you have already replaced the battery and it did not fix your problem, then I would put a new starter on it. Remember in every car there are only so may components to every system. with the starting system there is the battery, starter, alternator, and ignition. your problem doesn't sound like it is coming from either the alternator or ignition so it must be the starter....hope this helps.......Also, check your battery cables if they are worn ,cracked or broke, it could cause problems also

If the battery is good and you are still having a hard time starting (and assuming there is nothing wrong with your motor) then it could possibly be your battery cables or your starter. Check both the barrery cables for tighteness at both ends. On the positive cable check it at the battery and your starter (or solenoid) for tighteness and a good connection. On your negative also check it at the battery and wherever it is grounded to for a good connection. Check the condition of the cables for corrosion and good contact at both ends of both cables. If this is all good then you might possibly have your starter looked at.........it could possibly be going bad. Hope this helps.

maximum vehicle elements places will try your battery for loose. Get that checked because that's the better element to fix. you should purely have one undesirable cellular and that's going to start up often times and in no way start up different situations. If the battery is okay then have the alternator checked. you should ought to visit a mechanic for that. Alternators have 3 voltage outputs low, medium, and extreme. anybody of those diodes can go undesirable. If the alternator isn't putting out adequate voltage to price the battery thoroughly then you truthfully may have worry starting up. for instance throughout the time of situations once you extremely artwork the battery troublesome, like once you run the lighting fixtures, play the radio, and are available about the air con fan abruptly. If the alternator assessments out then the in common words element left to verify is the starter. yet from what you've defined my be should be the Alternator. note that if the alternator has been less than performing for a lengthy time period it can make the battery go undesirable. So in the experience that they inform you the battery is undesirable shop a watch on the alternator besides.

Make sure your battery cable connections are clean. That is the leading cause of starting/charging system failures. Have your alternator tested for correct output. Make sure all accessories, lights, radio, etc. are turned off. Check the starter and starter relay.

I had a car that did that once and it was the starter, it had a bad spot in the armiture and if it stopped just in that spot, it would not crank. It was a real bugger to troubleshoot and took me about a month to finally figure it out.

Could be the alternator. If it is not working properly the battery does not get recharged as it should. Hence the problem you have. This is one possibility.
