when i was pumping fuel i was looking at the pump and noticed that tax is added in to the price per gallon. i believe there were 3 different taxes, added up, it was about 96 cent to the gallon. so the price of a barrel is not the reason for high gas prices. it is the governments fault that the prices are so high. it is their taxes on the gas that are causing high prices.if there were no taxes on the gas it would be a little under 2 dollars a gallon.

Our gas is cheap compared to the prices charged in the rest of the world -- and they have been paying Big Bucks for many years.

Of course there are unreasonable taxes on gasoline. There are unreasonable taxes on everything. It's in the nature of governments to tax everything. If you could get rid of tax on gasoline, they would merely tax something else to make up the difference.

Face it, gas costs $3 a gallon and is headed up. Rather than grumbling about it, you ought to be thinking about how to deal with it.

The gas tax is 18.4 cents federal tax & ~25 cents state tax (different in each state). This money is generally used for highways. And it hasn't risen when there are wars & hurricanes, the oil price has. So I would say the increase in gas prices is due to the oil price increase.

I think the reason gas is so high is because we are at war with the country that makes it.
Would you give cheap gas to a country that was trying to attack you?
And Bush and Cheney both have stock in gas comapies so they are making money on it and won't do anything aobut it soon. Maybe the next president will. We can only hope.
