the answer is lewis carroll, he made up the tale for 7 year old alice liddell, while taking her rowing one afternoon in 1862.

Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, written under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll first told the story of Alice in Wonderland. It was first made for three little girls: Lorina Charlotte Liddell (aged 13),Alice Pleasance Liddell (aged 10), Edith Mary Liddell (aged 8). Alice asked Charles to write it down for her. He did.
