Obviously the questioner does not know much about the Monarchy!! Why would one suppose that the Head of State would have to pay rent for the privilege of representing one's country? Not that I wish to contradict any of the other contributors but I think it is more accurate to describe the Palace as a property owned by the Crown. It is however true the Her Majesty does own in Her private personage the properties Sandringham House and Balmoral Castle and could dispose of these to whom ever She liked. However, the Palace (Buckingham House) and Windsor Castle are Crown Properties to be used by whichever Sovereign happens to occupy the Throne.

QE owns all the property she and the royals occupy. She probably pulls enough money in rent to buy a small country.

Yep! But then, she owns it, so she doesn't have to pay rent. Nice for her, eh?
