I am 28 and have been on birth control since I was 17. First on Depo-Provera, then Ortho-Tri and now Yasmin. Three years ago I stopped taking the pill and I waited almost 4 months and I never had a period. I went to the dr. and she told me not to worry and that I was in "mid-cycle" and to continue taking the pill if I didn't want to get pregnant. I have changed Dr's and told them the same story and they all don't seem worried. I just don't want to be 33 years old and realize that I can't have kids. Any ideas?

in my experience and with others i know....when you stop taking the pill, your body has to adjust... some people get pg right away, others it takes awhile. why that is? i am not sure.... my sister in law stopped taking the pill and it took her a year to get pg. and she was in the same situation. was taking the pill for many years. but her second child was a breaze, didn't take long at all. The period issue, i think your body was adjusting and sounds normal. If you have beem ttc for over a year now, you should seek a firtility doctor. perhaps there are some underlying issues that need to be looked into or it could be as simple has hormonal imbalance. good luck and hang in there. I know how frusterating it can be. :)

Birth control works by putting hormones into your body that you produce while you are pregnant so that your body thinks it is pregnant and does not release an egg. You can't get pregnant if there is no egg to be fertilized.

So, it's like you've been pregnant to the last 10 years. Your body can take some time to get used to running the old way again. Since many women's cycles are extremely irregular, it's no big deal if yours are, too.

I'm wondering, though, if you were on the pill, didn't you have your periods in the off week every month?

So, this is like you've been pregnant to the most suitable 10 years. Your body can take the time to get used to operating the former way again. considering many women human beings's cycles are fairly abnormal, this is not any vast deal if yours are, too. i'm questioning, although, in case you've been on the pill, did not you've your sessions in the off week each and each month?

There's no link between long-term use of birth control and infertility. The only problem you might encounter would be related to the shots/patches/things inserted. The hormones from them last longer in your body, so it would take them a little longer to get worked out of your system.

Dont worry so much about this. Perhaps you didn't have your period because of other factors. Stress is a main one, and so is diet and exercise.

Hope this helps!

I've always asked that question. "What side effects do you get from taking the pill for so long?" I always get the same answers you do. The pill has been around long enough that they probably would have figured those things out by now. The only thing that I can think of, is that it may damage your liver over time. Pretty much anything you take over time effects your liver.
