In this part of California, we're at 7.5% sales tax. Oregon has no sales tax. So let's see; that's a five hour trip....300 miles....30 mpg vehicle.... 10 gallons of gas... $3.25 per gallon.... $32.50 for gas.... oops that's just one way, so $65.00 in gas...

I'd have to spend *a lot* to make up for what it would cost to shop in another state on this side of the country.

You don't have to... you can just go to an urban area like Newark, Trenton, Camden, etc. Basically anyplace in NJ where there's a good chance you'll get shot will have only 3% sales tax... it's an effort to boost sales/tourism in areas most of us would rather not go.

Our sales tax is 10%. Where does this taxation stop? What is happening to all the money?

no.. my state charges 6% allready
