Someone told me yesterday that they heard 6 flags Magic Mountain and Paramount's Carowinds are closing. I find this hard to believe. Has anyone else heard this rumor?

Paramount's Carowinds is not closing they have just been bought out, like all the Paramount Parks chain. The new owners Cedar Fair are going to do a much better job at running the parks and will keep them well maintained. The Paramount Parks chain cost $1.24 billion.

Six Flags Magic Mountain on the other hand has an undetermined future. Six Flags is abandoning their flagship park, and the only reason I can figure is they're trying to get its land value ($1,000,000 an acre not including ride value) to get them out of debt. Whoever buys Magic Mountain will determine whether it stays open or not. I figure it will stay open based on knowing it would be a nightmare to tear down all the rides (for instance X's supports go down 80 feet in concrete) and make the land ready to build a housing development on. Selling the park is a mistake, and Six Flags will know it on next years' revenue.

MMountain will be sold, but I dont think that the new owners will get rid of the theme park. There's just too much money invested in it. Each ride was very expensive to build. The new owners will probably keep it open, but use better marketing techniques to bring more people in. Usually, an undertaking like this will be in effect for 3 to 5 years, after that, it may close down entirely.

Yes. This is all very true. (I just want to give coasterman some props for his well researched, and thought out comment.) Six Flags lost a lot of money based on their poor management style.
