My friend (a guy), someone who I consider as a very good friend though we only knew each other for a while is having his Birthday on Sunday. He doen't know that I knew about his birthday. I'm thinking of surprising him by buying a present, an expensive DVD he's been wanting to have. However, I'm afraid that he would feel weird of me buying him expensive things. Is it weird for a guy to buy present to another guy? A birthday present? Or should I just congratulate him and not buy him present to avoid false perception, especially from his part?
Answers and most of all suggestion or advice on that before Sunday is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

No I think you should buy him a present.. He wont take it wrong..Congradulate him and tell him this is also for being a good buddy =P Im sure he will love it.. Dont be silly worrying about getting your present wrong.. Besides a dvd is not like you got him a car or anything.. So go for it.. It's a nice thought and good way of showing him you consider him as a good friend..

Give him the gift if you want to, but it sounds like you may already know that this gift could open the door to an uncomfortable area. As a woman, I don't give other women that I have known for a short while gifts. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't give a man a gift that I have known for a short time. If I know it's their birthday and I come in contact with them on that day, I just say "Happy Birthday."

i wouldnt get the expensive DVD thingy cause u said u havent known him for a while.. if u wanna get him something get him a smaller gift...
or you could get other of his friends together and tell them to give some money to buy the gift and u could all give it... that would b better than giving it urself and it could avoid all the stuff u wanted to avoid...
