it's a style thing-- look at nicole richie, paris hilton, lindsay lohan etc. so suppliers make all the glasses large because that is what is in style. Then when you go to the store, there is a majority of large-framed glasses-- what are you to choose, right?
An added benefit of large frames-- they protect your eyes better from the sun because they offer greater coverage.

Actually the fashion industry decides that it is going to change the definition of trendy on a regular basis in order to assure that you have to buy new stuff every year. Last year small sunglasses were trendy. This year large sunglasses are trendy so your sunglasses from last year won't do, and you have to buy new ones. The same goes for color, purses and pant length.

i thought it was so they could see their own reflection better in comet shop window when they go past the wide-screen tellies but they do stop you getting sun damage around the eyes which gives you wrinkles and pre-mature ageing. I'm all for face-furniture but prefer the cycling sunglasses as they are cheaper!

ah style its so fickle. I love the big sunglasses. But there are two different types, the retro 70s look or the modern Police sunglasses (that david beckham advertises for). I have a pair of them and I love them, they are reflective so no one can see my eyes.

It's been decided by those people who decide things for us, that big sunglasses are fashionable this year. Therefore, we all have to follow suit like sheep because that's all that in the shops.
