There are several locations on the Earth where waves are high. One the most popular surfing locations is the Bonzai Pipeline off the northern coast of Oahu, Hawaii. Waves are created by the friction between the wind and water. The largest bodies of water create the largest waves (Pacific Ocean). Wave height is also determined by the steepness of the continental slope. The steeper the slope, the higher the waves.

Mavericks in Northern California. Every year they have the "Men who ride Mountains" contest out there and the wave can reach 50-60ft. and are rideable! I think that has the biggest rideable waves. There is also a big sand bar in the ocean somewhere that gets that big but only like 2 days a year.
