SSI will screw the instructors every time. They were set up to support the stores, not the instructors. That's why they require you to be a slave to the store. It happened to me over ten years ago, the store owner was a crooked POS who eventually got run out of town. However, SSI, after recieving bazillions of complaints, agreed to make another local store into an SSI facility. Unfortunately, the second store was really more geared to PADI, and so the SSI instructors were pretty much as popular as a poopy-flavored lollypop.
That's why I let mine expire nine and a half years ago, and went with a reputable organization instead. Just do a crossover, they aren't that expensive, and totally worth it. Wave goodbye to SSI with your middle finger, cos that's what they are waving at you.
Hope this helps, it sure helped me.
