Don't you mean, "Why do Americans know hardly anything about (Fill in the Blank!)", most American believe their country is on the top of the international tree.
That kind of arrogance means that they neither know or care about what happens beyond their borders.

We British were little better in the days of Empire. The wheel just turns.

Because there is hardly anything going on in Canada that is newsworthy. Say, when was the last time you took a stand on something (must be recent, within the last 2 years) that is NOT American but carved a path that may be controversial from others point of view? I can't think of any.

PR job done by the Government is very poor too. What do you do to promote your country on the worldstage? Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zero. A big goose egg.

Maybe because they just don't care. But I am sure those who are smart know something about Canada. I think the educational system is different too. Maybe they are not supposed to learn about Canada.
I am from Romania, and here we have to learn a lot of things about all the countries in the world (history, geography, literature etc.). But how many people know anything about my country?

Why do you THINK THAT?? I know a lot of Americans that know a lot about Canada. It's just that we don't see any reason to brag about it.

The US has more people in New York state then the whole country. We could take Canada over in a second.

Have a good day eh!

Because there is no need to know anything. Name a time in your life that someone asked you an important question concerning Canada? In your last job interview did they? Maybe they ask the exchange rate, which would be 100:1, j/k

Canada doesn't have a real rich history, it's main activities are being subservient to the British Empire.

Very few Americans want to know anything about Canada, because of preconceptions and stereotypes as a boring place.

They hardly know anything about any country!!! When they were bombing Yugoslavia, a journalist made a gallop: he stopped people shopping in the mall and asked them to point Yugoslavia on a world map he had. Well, 87% didn't have a clue where it was!!!

Because American is the big boss of the world. They are everywhere, like Iraq and North Korea.

Why do Canadians think they know a lot about America?

Videos like the one you saw are designed to be patriotic propaganda. I've seen similar videos, each one depicting a different social group as ignorant and uneducated.
