eight or nine months. The key is to see if the child grabs at your food cause if the child shows interest in what your eating then it is time for table food. Most give cheerios first. Then baby food for a couple weeks. I breast fed so I didn't start solids until eight months. Teeth make no difference in things like mashed foods or even cheerios since the hole in the middle of the cheerio prevents choking and Cheerios can be gummed and dissolve easily.

It depends on when he gets teeth. I started cheerios at 10 months. Gerber also makes a line for first foods that are meant for few teeth. I would start with that. Just pay close attention to how they react and be careful not to give foods that are known to cause choking or allergic reactions such as hot dogs, peanuts, and grapes.

So-called "baby foods" are *not* good for babies!! It is better to wait until a baby is ready to eat solids, rather than force-feeding mush. They you can just offer healthy foods instead of the tasteless, non-nutritious stuff they sell in jars.
Signs of readiness for solids include sitting unsupported, appearance of teeth, and the development of the "pincer grasp"--when a baby picks up small objects with the thumb and one finger. If baby has all (or at least *2*) of these, she/he may be ready for solids.

Later than most people probably do, because she was late in getting teeth. But things like bananas or boiled carrots, or even crackers are easy for them to chew up without teeth. (I used Ritz crackers at first.) Also, Gerber makes a wide variety of snacks (fruit puffs are good to start with) that are solid, but dissolve very easily in a baby's mouth.

When my son was teething, he wanted to chew on the spoon, not much food got in his tummy, so I gave my son Cheerios, Kix cereal, stale Ritz crachers to munch on - around 6-7 months.

About 6 months old, my daughter started on Cheerios. She had her two front teeth by then and was able to crunch on them a little. She started sucking on them first to turn them to mush.

It depends, you have to try stuff out. I would wait until at least 10 months before cherios or something hard like that, or at least until they have teeth on top and bottom. 10 months is where she pretty much stopped eating mush food and started eating those toddler meals and some food from our plates.
