I might be getting a dwarf hamster tonight. I heard dwarfs are happier in pairs is this true? Also can I put one of two in a ten gallon tank?

Dwarf hamsters can live happily together when they're young, but sometimes when they're older they can start fighting - especially if you introduce a new one to a hamster who's been living on his own.
Check out this website (FAQ's) - it tells you alot about hamster care, and there's an answer about whether you can keep dwarf hamsters together.

Some are happier in pairs... This is true. One of my friends, though, had one that was a real sweetheart for over 11 years by itself. It would depend on how much attention it WANTS from you, weather or not the hamster needs a "mate" or a "friend". Try to stick to to females as they are less likely to have territorial squabbles.

A ten gallon tank is perfect for them.

Everybody is happier in pairs. Be sure 2 males or 2 females...else you will have 20 in no time.

i have had a few dwarf hamsters... they are happier in pairs but another thing where they are so tiny you need a heat lamp on them to keep them warm at all times... if you dont they are in a strong case to die..fast
