Ohhh sweetheart, have you ever discussed your fear of being shouted at with your parents? (not that all such parents would even try to understand how children feel). Listen honey I have two daughters and I love them to do well at school of course but I also understand that everyone of us have strengths and weaknesses. Certainly not all of us can become doctors because then who we gonna have to buy our daily bread from? There is nothing wrong with being ninth in the class for a change. We cannot be expected to be first all the time. Look Wimbledon champions can not continue staying on top forever. I'd say dont be depressed at all. I say you are a smart girl who been doing well and still are doing well. We all have our moments (goods and bads) but one thing is for sure nothing is forever and just praise yourself for all the years you have been first and perhaps if you want to think this way that you learn from this year's experience and if you really really wanna be first again then you probably work harder next year but remember even if you didnt it doesnt matter as we need as much a doctor in our society as a solicitor, bank manager, baker, etc. etc. I think you are a good girl and your parents should be proud of you.

p.s. If I were you I would try to edge my way into trying to talk to my parents at some point (perhaps not now), and I would want to tell them that the exams/SAT's etc. would put the child under extreme pressure as it is, and that if I knew that even if I didnt do that well my parents were still there on my side, it would take a lots of unnecessary added pressure off of me and that in itself helps you to spend that wasted energy into your exams with a peace of mind. Good luck
Finally as regards helping you to study better. I think you need to eat 3 regular meals, lots of fruits and liquid. Try to take a 10 minutes to do simple meditation to exercise putting other matter at the back of your head and also do some light sports early in the morning. All the best.

Fine that you were getting first in the previous classes. But don't worry that now your position is only ninth. There may be some reason that you did not get it this time. Try to find out what is the reason behind it.

As you know each year you climp new steps in your educational ladder and the the topics that you study definetely increase in complexity. One of the reasons can be the way you study. I suggest you that you discover new methods by which you can learn quickly. For example in smaller classer students usually mug up or byheart the lessons. But this is impossible in the higher classes. You may have to understand each concept well. As you know many of the things that you learn are inter related and if one part or portion you feel difficult to uderstand or you don't understand, it will affect all other topics related to that.

Ensure after every class that you understand all the topics that were taught in the class and if there remains any doubt clarify that, the day itsely or the very next day. You know that the doubts are yery dangerous and you they square when not cleared.

Make sure that you revise the everyday topics. I suggest you try harder as there is no substitute for hard work. Try discovering new methods to learn like Mind maps, Acronyms, Formulas, Rhymes and so on. Also check you from your mind getting distracted to other that may disturb your studies.

You have that determination and is the reason why you have put this question and am sure that you will succeed.
All the best.

Are you depressed BECAUSE you can't concentrate and aren't doing as well as you'd like in your studies or are your feelings of depression what is causing your study habits to dwindle? I have suffered from bouts of dysthymia my entire life and one of the hardest things for me to deal with was my lack of concentration in school, as it is very important to me as well. The best thing that helps me is to think about how important your studies are and remember where they can take you! And sometimes JUST concentrating on one thing, such as studying, is easier than trying to juggle, say, sports and playing the piano AND studying.

i have had problems in concentrating too. Cure for this...well. Leave out your computer, shut your TV, If you dont like a subject read less about it (but efficiently), If you like a subject read alot about it. maybe you nedd some change or new in your life. Go out of the city or do something you have wanted to do and you havent done. Or then its just a period of time in your life (especially if you are a teenager). Dont worry everytime youll do better.
Good luck.

You should be the one to help yourself... Do have any hobbies that take most of your time or mind thinking about it? If they are not important, do them on your free days. If you really want to be the top, make studying your top priority.Try to relax and don't freak out..

sorry to hear that. did something or someone new show up in your life or some new activity that has taken your attention from your school work? you need to resolve this before you can put your mind back to your school work if not it will just keep eating at you.
