I have a terrible time remembering names. As for faces, I've seen you before somewhere.
I had high hopes for the association techniques. Harry Loryaine and whats-his-name who used to play basketball back when the airpump needle was new, wrote books on it. But I've stopped buying memory books because they often say pretty much the same thing. I browse through them and if I see the words describing association "connect with their clothes" then I just close it up and move on. I remember being introduced to several people and made associations based on clothes. The next time I saw those people they weren't wearing the same thing. The sounds of their voice were familiar, the faces familiar, even a possible scene popped into my mind with where I saw them--but no names would come.
People frequently remember me, often because I've said or done something funny or strange (I'm like that, funny and strange). But I suppose what scuttles it for me is that I either think that I will probably never see this person again (whereupon the name dissolves like sugar in tea) or that I'll be seeing so much of them that I'll always have clues. This latter got me into a lot of embarrassment at a certain business where I was in charge of security. I would report on this strange person who came in over the weekend, it was a vice-president of the company but you'd never know him because I never saw him before in those clothes.

I can remember faces better than names. And sometimes I find that I recognize a person's face, but I have absolutely NO idea how I know that person!

Ha,ha...I am terrible with names - could be introduced to someone 5 times - and still not remember their name when seeing them again.
I never forget a face, though. :)
