Actually, i know what you mean. The Da Vinci Code gives the reader a good enough read to actually give that spark of interest in reading. Now that you're done with it, you will also be interested to read a short book by Mitch Albom, "The Five People You Meet in Heaven."

Try 'Foucault's Pendulum' by Umberto Eco. It deals with similar territory as The Da Vinci Code but is much better written and funnier.
You'll never look at a spark plug the same way again.

Anything from Frederick Forsyth (Jackal) or Roibert Lundlum are great conspiracies.
Perhaps Willbur Smith, like Seventh Scroll.
For sure: Rames, read Christian Jacq's Ramses. (1 to 5) Quite interesting. Same life of Valerio Massimo Manfredi.
All those will be nice considering that you are an starter and have some taste of History, Conspiration and Triller.

The First Book i would recommend isn't very well known but is full of mystery and insights plus loads on religion and mythology. Its called Deciper by Stel Pavlou. Then of course there the classic Shogun by James Clevall(if i spelt the name wrong i'm sorry) and if your in the mood to read alot there is always Stephen Kings - The Dark Tower series. 7 books with lots of referances to other books he has written

I think Angels and Demon is even better than The Davinci Code (looks like you'll have to read that one judging from how many people say to read it)My 3 favourite books are
Jane Eyre (roller coaster ride of emotions)Bronte
Memoirs of a Geisha (beautifully written)
Oryx and Crake (canada's best author Margaret Atwood)

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.
Or you could read Dan Browns three other novels (Angels & Demons, Digital Fortress and Deception Point)

I've just read We need to talk about Kevin which is a fantastic book, but if you have just started reading then read A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby (of About a Boy fame). It's about four people who are are about to kill themselves that meet at a reknowned suicide spot and the unlikely friendship that they develope. It is laugh-out-loud funny, and a really easy read. By far his best book. You will love it, I promise.
