Mr Buffet hasnt give away anything.

First of he owns a lot of MSFT (Microsoft Stock), so basically its microsoft share holders money and bill gates money going back to them (in Part)

Secondly the commitment is in Berkshire Hathaway stock, over a number of years, so he is donating stock over X years at todays stock price. the price , is something that we can all speculate on, however, given his trackrecord Berkshire should hold if not grow.

So essentially its a great philanthropic gesture by Mr Buffet, but his out of pocket expense is close to nothing if you calculate the cost of his stock, give it all the dividends , splits, bonuses etc...

you will see that he has actually donated only a few million if at all!!
These are all gimmicks my friend, A moneyed man is wiser than giving away his wealth.

But the gesture is of supreme kindness, and he has won my heart for sure, even a dollar is a big donation for someone who needs it.

I would have used my fortune to help family and friends and would like to lie and say, yes I would do that, but no, I probably would have been too greedy. I am sure he kept enough to keep his family very comfortable for the rest of their lives, but since I can't even comprehend that amount of money, I know I would have kept it.
