I have been looking for this song for going on 10 years now.
First I do believe that the next to the last line in the chorus is I'm gonna seek out the dry and arid places. I don't remember the "see who needs" line in the song but I haven't heard it in a very long time. Also the name of the song appears to be "Stop This Hauling Water To The Sea"
Anyway... I don't have much help to offer you.but I did find this site.

This site lists the authors to be Reba Rambo and Dony McGuire. I am pretty sure that they did not sing the song or at least did not sing the version I heard. There actually was a site a few years back (I have been searching for a very long time) that did mention who sang it but again all I am finding is references to the song.
Finding your lyrics is as close as I have gotten to hearing this song again.
Hopefully we will both one day get to hear it sang again.
