I have to do a performance tomorrow but my belly is huge and I know why. I haven't gone to the bathroom in a longgg time. And I can feel that I want to go. But when I go, I can feel that the stool is too hard. Please, is there anyway to quickly soften it so that I may use the bathroom? This is very painful. Also any advice as to how to prevent this from happening again? Also last time I had a big stool again I just forced it and blood came out. Is there a bigger problem I should be worrying about?

The fastest relief is to purchase an enema. Fleet is the best. Yeah, it's yucky, but it will work right away. For relief in approx. 8-12 hours, purchase Colace Stool softener. Unlike some laxatives it does not contain a stimulant which would give you cramps.

Also, drink a lot of water. Don't put anything more in your tummy besides fruit and vegetables until you go to the bathroom.

Good luck!

Try a fiber drink to start. I get the generic from Wal mart but there are tons of different brands.
You may have to take 2 or 3 drinks of it before it starts to work. but if you get the generic, just do a bit at a time as it gels up quickly.

Then after you start going again., drink lots of water. This helps keep you soft. Exercise helps you go too. At first don't go far from the bathroom but as you get used to it, you can go further.

Add fiber (at wal-mart) to your cereal, etc.
Also bran I'm told works wonders.
Try Colace or Peri Colace. It is over the counter as well in the med aisle and sold at Wal Mart.

I think the blood may be from straining to hard but see the Dr about that. I could be from hemorrhoids or fissures. Then try eat lots of lettuce, ect. They say grease is not good for you, and I know its true, but you know, a greasy meal sometimes is the only thing that does work for me. Buy yourself a McDoanlds hamburger. Fry some eggs in butter or grease.
If there is any particular food that makes you go, eat it. For example, everytime I eat creamed corn, I spend my day in the bathroom. So I'd eat that.

Sounds like IBS. (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) You may need a gastroenterlogist

You have a huge problem. You can't take anything oral cos' the effect is not immediate. The problem lies at the end of you not the beginning, so you have to do something at the end. Enemas are useful if the stool is still soft or well formed but since your stool if hard, then use soap water. Use something to squirt it up at your anus, while you squat in the loo. Do not, I repeat, DO NOt force or strain yourself too much cos' your anal membrane can be protruded out or worse it can tear. If this still not working, please walk-in to A&E where they can do manual evacuation for you under sedation. Please drink alot of water or take a lot of fibre in future to prevent this from happening again.

You can get Fleets enema at your local drug store.. for emergency relief.. For future care it is recommended that you establish a time of day to have your elimination program put into action.. get a good book in the bathroom and use it to help you calm down a bit and train yourself to be effective.. the body will respond when there is a routine established.

The blood you observed is not unusual when there is such strain to the area.. Is coming from the hemorrhoidal vein, in the rectum.

Quickest way is an enema i know it sounds gross but it does the job. I had a baby by c-section and your suppose to have a bowel movement before they release you and i didn't and they released me anyway. i wound up bound up for 6 1/2 days! i wound up going to the E/R cause i was in SO much pain so go get an enema from the store there is nothing to be afraid of it feels a little weird if u can find someone who can help you. i recommend fleets. Gosh i can feel your pain.

First you need to figure out why this is happening to you. Is it your diet? Do you get enough fiber? Have you tried stool softeners? Just try to relax and try a natural laxative and see your doctor soon. You should eat plenty of fruit and veggies.
