I really liked Firefly - owned the DVDs and have watched them multiple times. Ditto with the movie.

But Firefly was not a popular show on Fox. Really. It had abysmal ratings, even by Fox standards, drawing the lowest or second-lowest ratings for Fox every week it was on.

Though I haven't seen Series 4 of Family Guy so it would be unfair to judge, the feedback I've been reading is that the writers have dropped all pretence of humour and gone for the lowest common denominator with a hosts of fart, s**t, etc gags. So with hindsight maybe Fox made a good decision. Interesting to see where Futurama goes from here particularly as regards the Fry/Leela relationship which came to dominate proceedings. Maybe this show has reacted its "Jump the Shark" moment for as a rule TV shows tend to go downhill once two protagonists that the audience what to get it on do so. As for Firelfy, sorry never really took off this side of the pond.

Because Fox is too impatient to let a fan base build up. I loved Firefly- got the DVDs & there are three episodes included that were never aired. Stupid Fox. I loved John Doe too. They left it at such a cliff hanger I almost had a coronary when they announced it's cancellation. Really ticked me off.
Futurama IS coming back!!! YAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!

I don't know, but I hate Fox for doing that. Of course, after Family Guy was proven to be very popular, they had to have it back on Fox. Most likely they make decisions based on how much money a show makes.

Really popular? I've never even heard of Firefly.

But Family Guy is on TBS now. I don't know if it's new episodes since I don't watch that show, but I know they show it.

Obviously, those shows weren't as popular as you think. It's all about viewership, which translates into higher rates that can be charged for commercials.

There is always one place where you can find shows that don't make any money...PBS.
