Yes this happened to me both pregnancies, at about this time. And get this, it never came back, even when the baby was pushing up on my stomach. It's hormonal, and it correlated with the peek of my morning sickness. Tums, rolades, these things never even took an edge off. Gaviscon, mylanta worked the best. Proton pump inhibitors (PPI's) are not permissible to take during pregnancy. I thought Gaviscon (sp?) worked the best. It's at the grocery store next to the mylanta. I hope this helps.

When I was pregnant with all 3 of mine (8,5,3) I took 152mg of Zantac at 9am and 9pm the last 2 trimesters. My doctor said don't wait for the heartburn and reflux to start just take it. Also sleeping on your left side places your stomach lower than your esophagus and reduces or eliminates the reflux. If it is bad enough you may have to sleep propped up with some pillows to prevent it. Also avoid drinking a lot of liquids or eating things like soup prior to going to bed at night.

Check with your doctor on the Pepto Bismol if I am recalling right Pepto Bismol was on my approved list of medicines from my doctor. An old home remedy is drink a glass of milk that it coats the esophogus and stomach and is supposed to help. Talk to your doctor he can give you prescription medicine if it is chronic acid reflux.

Keep crackers handy, do not let your stomach get ultra empty. Drink lots of water. Keep track of the foods that bother you - peppers, tomato sauce, milk, peanuts, etc and avoid them. Do not treat reflux with milk. It does soothe it temporarily and feels real good but milk has a lot of fatty acid and will actually exacerbate the problem. If you want to drink milk go for 2% or skim. Prop yourself up at night with extra pillows because it does worsen while laying down. If none of this works ask your doctor about Zantac or Prilosec. They are safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Don't eat after 8 pm. Try a nice tall glass of Milk or a bowl of icecream. You might try talking to your doctor about a prescription. Oh also sleep very upright. If you can tolerate a recliner and have one you should try that.

The only thing that works for me besides Tums is milk. I don't really like the taste of milk, so it has to be ice cold for me or I need to make it with Ovaltine. I always get really bad if I'm hungry, and especially with all the water I'm drinking, so I end up makling myself something dry, or making cereal since the milk helps anyway. The only thing that lasts for a good length of time is eating, though. They never warn you that you can get heartburn from water!

Saltine crackers and pepto! Also talk to your doctor as he may be able to give you something stronger that won't hurt the baby. I had to do that because I felt that the heartburn would never go away!

You should call your doctor's office and ask what they recommend for you. Not everything is safe for you and the baby right now. There are many things you could take but there may be one that is better for your individual pregnancy.
