John Lennon said the LSD was just coincidence with Lucy in the Sky. He then started looking at all the initials of all his other songs to see if there were any other songs with abbreviations. I heard this on the Lost Lennon Tapes by Lennon himself. I believe him, he sounded so sincere about it. He said that Julian brought him a picture he drew and it was called Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

John Lennon, when asked if the song was about LSD, denied it. He said he was inspired by a drawing his son Julian brought home, of a girl named Lucy floating in the sky surrounded of diamonds. I think we will never be sure. For an instance, if someone else had said what Lennon did I probably wouldn't have believed it and would have thought they were lying. But I know Lennon never really cared what government or people thought about him; The Beatles openly admitted being on drugs more than once, and even admitted some other songs talked about drugs too (Got to get you into my life, A day in the life). They could also have told that not to be banned, because the song surely was a hit. So, as I said, we can only guess.

Most sources (including John Lennon himself) say that he first got the idea for Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds when his son Julian came home from school one day with a picture he'd drawn, and he described it as his friend Lucy in the sky with diamonds. John said that he thought it was beautiful and he wrote a song about it, and it was only later that somebody noticed that the song title, when shortened, came out to be LSD (Lucy, Sky, and Diamonds). But it could actually be a reference to the drug, because the Beatles were taking LSD at the general time that Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (the album that Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was released on) was being written and released.

One of the beatles came up with it from a picture his daugter drew, she said that it was a picture of Lucy in the sky with diamonds. I heard that on some interview a long time ago.
