Tall phlox, black-eyed susan, bleeding heart, yucca, rose of sharon, large poppy, variegated hosta, iris, spider wort, chive, coneflower, asiatic lily, stella doro lily, sedum, garden mum. These are perennial, add color, & will return year, after year, although the iris does need to be divided, periodically,as they tend to multiply each year, they ares still low maintenance, you can eat the chive, & get pretty little purple flowers in the spring. I hope this helps! Have fun.

A lot depends on where you live. Do your plants need to be heat tolerant? Frost tolerant? Sun? Shade? Type of soil? Watering?
I would go to your local garden center and talk to them, especially if you can find a local or small nursery (the clerks at the big stores tend to be less well informed). Tell them your needs and the specifics of where you want to plant, they should be able to point you to some good choices.
