I may believe i am running faster when running on a train and get encouraged by it and give positive feedback to my brain thereby resulting in my actually running faster?

what do you think?

Please do not lose motivation after reading my answer, I think positive thinking is what really can make the difference while training of doing anything what so ever. But well I'm sorry to disappoint you but you are not running faster, the train itself is moving fast, but if I were to measure your speed with a speed radar with me being on the train also, your speed would be the same that the one you can achive on the ground, of course if I measured your speed with me being off the train your speed would be the one you obtained by yourself on the ground plus the speed of the train. (I assume you run inside the train, and not on top of it, or else running agianst the wind flow would be harder and help you gain strenght, but It might get you killed also)

What I do think is that by training on a moving train you might help yourself improve in other aspects, more concentration, you would improve your balance, learn not to lose foothold, which might help you out in winning a race, so please train as you find better for yourself, it usually is, and keep up the good work.

No - because you in effect admit that you are tricking yourself and therefore the conscious part of your brain will override any sub-conscious positive feedback.

Whether or not you could perform the trick on someone who was unaware of what was going on and whether they would be any faster as a result would make an interesting (if difficult) experiment.

A better way of training, which is actually used, is to carry weights when you are training (eg around your ankles). This develops the muscles and also when to take the weighst off to run for real you *feel* lighter and faster. It's also cheaper than hiring a train...

What does this question mean??? You go running on trains? Everyone answered this like it is a normal question. I don't get it...

BTW- It is most important to run faster while in competition; this is when you need to be mentally tough. Do whatever it takes to have a mental edge while in a race. If running on trains makes you more confident and mentally strong on race day then go for it, but physically you won't really be stronger from it.

You will achieve only the perception and no real gains in actual performance. Since much of sports performance is mental though you might see progress in your dedication to running better and faster or training harder
