Not at all. Few people these days DON'T have an employment gap.

You may want to mention it in the cover letter. You could say something like "after taking a year off for personal reasons, I now wish to reenter the banking industry."

Depends on where you live and what your field is. Some careers have tons of openings and others have none.

Even though you have excellent recommendations that doesn't mean you'll get the job. You might have fallen behind the times with technology and skills.

Besides, it's a moot point what we think. You all ready took the time off so it's a done deal. You may not get the job in your field, but you can always work at the local gas station.

I'm an Employment Counsultant in NC....yes, it will be difficult unless you want a job at McDonalds or Wal-Mart. You are going to have to account for the major gap in your resume. Employers are not going to be too keen on hiring someone who just "needed to take a year off" or "to find yourself". You are going to need to explain why you took the time off and how you are a better person and employee for your experience. Otherwise you jut look like a flake and someone that may just pick up and take off again.

Two things you need to be prepared to discuss:

1) Why you took the time off
2) Why you're not going to just get a whim and decide to do it again.

Employers want people who are both good employees and that they think will stay around for a while. I don't think it will be a big deal, but in the back of their mind, they might be wondering if this is gonna be a regular thing you do. So, if you can just say you got it out of your system, that will put them at ease.

Should not be a problem. If it does, try venture into some small biz, as you have travelled and see lots of things and happenings - i'm sure that you could capture a lot of things that can bring profit to you.
