i think he just exaggerated.it is right to react to an insult but not so harshly when you are playing such an important match.

I SUPPORT ZIDANE ALL THE WAY. i think that zidane should have kick that matterazie's butt, and bask him up. That' sworth the red card.
zidane said that it wasn't abpout racise but mother and sister thing in an interview. He said that matterazie talk about his mother and sister for the third time before he strike.
That matteraize is a sore loser. He knew that if zidane was in, it's going to be a hard time for them and so he provoke zidane.
according to zidane, that mat something pulled his t-shirt and say awful things about his sister and mother.
A joker, disrespecful guy is that mat something.
I respect zidane alot because he put his family before himself. He is feeling terrible but he says he DON"T REGRET IT. that shows how filial is he. Most player's wouldn't be bothered about their family.

SHAME ON ZIDANE
bad words are not a crime, headbutting is.
a guy died some years ago to be headbutted during a football match.
so you understand zidane should be punished by jail.
Zidane felt offended ? This is football, it's a continuos provocation.

Neither do I, but the question is has ZIdane ever used that kind of Language on the field towards his opponents? the answer is yes, he has, i have seen him. therefore his action now was the action of a hypocrite.
