The answer probably lies in the fact that, on leaving office pretty soon (which he has said he will do) Blair will still be a relatively young man in his early fifties and, no doubt, will be on the look-out for some high demanding, well paid job.
My guess is that he will probably try to get on the lucrative US lecture scene (earning millions of dollars for each speech) or he will have a go at vying for the UN Secretary General's job. Either option requires him to have the strong support of the US and which probably explains why he has acted as he has done during these past few years.
At the end of the day it's all about $'s and £'s and looking after oneself.

Tony Blair may be a suck up, but he is the only foreign leader who has any kind of influence over Bush. Which is particularly crucial at the moment, given Blairs views on the current middle east situation, and the restraint that America could have on Israel as long as Blair can persuade Bush to reign them in a bit.

Tony Blair suffers from Inferior Complex brought upon by the notion that Great Britain is still great. No one gives a damn about GB any more. They are a third world country. Thats why he sucks up to washington. He has no balls to tell bush to shove it.

I don't understand Tony Blair. He seems to have some intelligence and you know he has to know that George Bush has none. Is Tony doing it for oil also?

we have always had very close relations to the usa and long may it stay that way, most presidents and prime ministers have been in close contact with each other and remained friendly after leaving office, remember we could be speaking german if the usa did not join in the fight for the freedom we have today in 2 world wars

Old Tony hasn't, never has and never will have the balls to do anything to the contrary of what Bush wants.

I don't think he is sucking up. I think he is watching our backs.
It is a really good idea to keep on good terms with the largest power in the western world.
