People tell me that I'm funny. I have a great imagination and I would like to get into the entertainment business. Can anybody help?

I would rather write scripts than be a stand-up comedian. I don't really care about the money.

I'm sorry, I meant to put WHAT instead of WHERE.

Sounds like all you need is a place to start. Enjoy the journey.

How old are you? What's your education level? Are you willing to get more qualifications? What are your other skills? What aspect of the entertainment business most appeals to you? How soon do you need to be making money?

You mentioned script writing. Have you looked at the Writer's Market or anything like that? (Writer's Market is a compliation of publishers' contact information and requirements with subsections for specialties. It's been an absolute must, and I doubt the internet has really replaced it yet.) You can find the current volume in the reference section of most libraries. While you're there, look for books on script-writing as well.

Look for a course and definitely find a writer's group if you're serious.

The bottom-line advice with any kind of writing is to write, write and write some more. The Writer's Market and writer's magazines will help spark some ideas as to other types of writing. Maybe try a humor blog to get feedback. Keep in mind though, that writing isn't paid very well and there's a lot of competition.

Also think about other ways to put your humor and imagination to use. I'm thinking things like story-telling or working with kids in other ways. Day centers for people with learning disabilities could be another option (will definitely be a lot of fun too, if you have the right attitude). It might be necessary to volunteer at first to help get experience.

Remember that every experience teaches you something about people. And that makes your writing that much better.

So while you're typing your Oscar-winning script, put your great imagination to use and think outside the box for ways to earn your keep and work your creativity.

Have you tried writing jokes? How about developing a stand-up routine? Try it. There are plenty of open mic nights in clubs and bars in a typical town. If there are none where you live, consider moving to a bigger city. Go for it!

Start off doing stand up at open mic nights at small clubs in your area. Keep it simple. People love to hear jokes about stuff that everyone does that noone thinks about but that we all have in common. Humans are just the funniest darned things!

Write a play and submit it to a local college to perform.
Become a professional blogger. Yes, there are professional bloggers for "nonpersonal" sites. They get paid like a writer for a newspaper column would.

Try and quantify how you imagine things. Is it more verbal or spatial. Do you say funny things, or do you do funny things? Could you write and be funny or draw and be funny? Is it just that you recognize funny when you see it?
