Lindsy,
You've had some great advice here. This is a question that would be hard to discuss with your mom or dad I suspect.

When you are considering such a big decision, please remember that your friends, other girls and guys you know, and the fellow who wants to have sex with you CANNOT tell you what is right for YOU.

Sometimes young people who have already had sex encourage their friends to become sexually active too and even go so far as to make them feel left out of conversations, but this doesn't matter.

Only you know if you are emotionally, physically, and spiritually ready to know another person so intimately. If someone really cares about you, they won't leave you because you don't have sex with them. If they do leave you when you say no, then that's a good sign they just wanted one thing from you.

Most, if not all, thirteen year olds have so many other issues to deal with that being sexually active and having to worry about birth control, stds, and the intense emotions that often come with sexual relationships is one burden they don't need.

You are a wonderful and special creation. Honor that and "don't waste the pretty" on someone who doesn't honor both you and the sacredness that sex brings to a relationship.

Pegasus90too already stated the answer that I give to people:

When you are old enough to pay for any results of sex: supporting a child.

The last thing this work needs is another child with one parent or another white-trash, single mother collecting wellfare.

Thirteen is way to young! You should not be even thinking about it yet.

At an absolute minimum, i would wait until you are out of high-school. Atleast then you have finish primary school.

When you do decide to have sexy - ALWAYS use a condom. There are too many STD's and no way to tell if your partner has one.

How sad that in today's world a 13 year old would be asking complete strangers this question. If I could re-write history I would NOT have sex until I truly loved someone - but since I cannot I will offer this advise. Sex is fun between consenting ADULTS - until you are mature enough to handle the emotions and responsibilities of sex (i.e. babies, Aids, STD's) then you shouldn't even be considering this question - and by having to ask at all YOU ARE NOT READY! Date lots of people, have lots of fun, explore, adventure, educate, and live!

a lot older than 13. i had sex for the first time when i was 16 and that was such a mistake, i was way too young, and i regret it a lot. because i was so unprepared i have a lot of problems with sex and relationships now.

wait as long as you can, and make sure that when you do finally have sex, its with someone meaningful!

When you are old enough to pay for any results of sex (like a child) for 20-25 years.

Unfortunately, most people don't understand that this is the way it is for teens. You are dealing with issues that most of them didn't have to deal with until they were older. I would suggest talking with your school counselor about this. They will NOT talk with your parents about this. It has to(by law) be kept confidential. She/he may be able to help you learn how to protect yourself when you do decide to take that HUGE step. This is a scary issue, and I know the more the public tells you not to do it, the more curious you will become. So, no matter when you decide to do this, please STAY SAFE. We all know that no one will be able to make this decision for you. It is ultimately yours. Good luck, honey.
