What level of thesis is this? A BA, an MA/MS or a PhD? It depends. For a BA you can give credit for smaller levels of contributions, for a multi-year PhD you may restrict your acknowledgements to people who contributed significantly.

Significant contributions can include reading drafts of your writing, giving you extensive feedback on your thoughts or written words, but also people who were there for you emotionally. You can give thanks by type of help split into different paragraphs. People often start with their main advisors/mentors and end with thanks for personal help to family and friends.

In the end, it's up to you. If you feel someone's help was of use, it is up to you to be generous and inclusive. But there is no right or wrong approach.

No offense, but it's also the brown nosing page, so also look at those who have the potential to help you out down the road and repay the favor when they get published.

Look at professors who were a great help to you along the road.

Look at those who can write you letters of recomendations.

Sometimes you only get one shot, so think of this as the Oscars and this is where you mention everyone you can.

Those whose help really contributed to the conduction of your project. For example, you don't include the librarian.
