Another old wive's tale!! I've never heard this particular one, but, no... It's a bunch of crap.
Babies like mirrors. Some people seem to think that if a baby is happy, something is wrong!! (In fact, there are people who think that if *anyone* is happy, there's a problem :-( )

The only way a mirror is going to harm an infant's eyes, (or anyone else's for that matter), is if it's reflecting the sun or other bright light source back at the viewer.
Every time I've witnessed a baby looking into a mirror has been an amusing experience. First, they think it's another baby. Then they learn it's themselves. Their facial expressions are priceless.

How the heck could looking into a mirror hurt an infants eyes?
That is just about the lamest thing I have heard in a long time. Use your common sense and think for yourself.

NO, as a matter of fact, it is recommended to let them look at themselves in the mirror. I heard an old wives tale that if you hold an infant in front of a mirror he or she will only learn to love themself. Don't listen to this crap!

No...Infants can't see very far away so it depends how close you put her if she could see in it really. But there is nothing wrong with letting her look in a mirror.

Your relatives are morons. There is no way that looking in a mirror will harm your baby's eyes.

Hmm...I've never heard that before. In fact, a lot of the newborn toys we have bought for our baby have mirrors on em. Babies get a kick out of seeing themselves! Next time your relatives have advice, just smile and nod :)

Relatives will tell you all kinds of wrong things...my husbands aunt told me not to hold my newborn too much because her bones would form wrong...i just nodded and agreed and kept holding my baby.
I hold her up in front of the mirror with varied results...once she did that cute baby frown and started crying, so i stopped, but lately she just starts cooing and laughing in front of it (3 mos). And she loves looking at how the "other" baby moves!
Dont listen to wellmeaning relatives.

The mirror is NOT harmful to their eyes, when they can see it it is actually a goog thing for them to check out becuase then they start recognizing themselves and learn what funny faces to make........I started holding my daughter up to the mirror at 4 months old and pointing to me and saying "mommy" and pointing to her and saying "Jocelynn"...unfortunately (shes is 2 now) I have a hard time getting her to NOT look in the mirrior now, everytime we pass by one she has to stop in fron of it and make a face, wether its batting her eyelashes at her self or seeing how far she can stick out her tongue!
