billions of dollars were spent to upgrade computers in North America alone,out of fear for something terrible.
Corporations, and Finanial institutions were told they could lose all data and risk losing fortunes if they didn't upgrade to Y2K compliant software.
Globally, trillions of dollars were spent on software that retails for about 50 bucks.
Imagine if the world invested that money on the poor?
