MUsic--it speaks to the soul

While lyrics are important, there is more to the music than anything else. A song with no music wouldn't give it what it is. You don't hear the words and want to cry, laugh, smile.. it's the music..

I think both play an important part in a song and they need to balance each other out. What's a song with good music but stupid pointless lyrics? And what's a song with beautiful poetic words but a horrible music that doesn't go with it? I believe both are equally important together in a great song.

Both, because you can't have a good song if either are bad. The music gets the attention, and catchy lyrics help people want to sing along.

However, most music would probably perform it's function without any lyrics, just as instrumental pieces.

Music because that's what draws you to a song. I've heard some with awesome lyrics, but the song was itself was awful. On the other hand, I love some songs that have the stupidest lyrics.

The music. I mean, look at Green Day. They always had great lyrics, but they didn't get famous until they got really good at piecing the lyrics w/ the music.

you made a hard question. A song without lyric would be a karaoke song, and a song without music would not be a song! Both are important!

Music, some of the best songs/albums mankind has ever made do not include lyrics.

Music. At least in terms of, is the song catchy, will people like and remember it. Look at Beatles songs, a lot of their lyrics are pretty uninspired. But they're still rockin' awesome.
