People are diffrent colors because of there genes.

This is easyer understood if you compare it to dogs. Why are there so many diffrent breeds? And how do you come up with new ones? Useually dogs are bred, if you one a particular characteristic in a dog you mate that dog with another dow with similar characteristic you are trying to get. If you do this for several generations and keep the dogs that have that characteristic you are looking for then eventully all further dogs in that line will have that characteristic. This is because you eliminate all the other genese in the pool except the ones with the certain characteristic you are looking for. So if you want a dog with a long tail you will have to find two dogs with long tails and mate them. If they have a puppy with a short tail you take it out of the process. You continue mating those puppys till none in that kind has a long tail anymore, ever.

When humans migrated they went into diffrent areas. As they migrated certain tribes only reproduced in that tribe. As they reproduced certain genes were lost. For people going north, they became whiter and whiter with time, as the gene needed to make them darker was lost. People going south became darker and darker. As the genes to make them light was lost. The same thing counts for all the other ethnicitys. If you mix the gene pool again, as in when a light person has a child with a dark person you get a more complete gene pool again and the child can be light or dark or anywhere inbetween. Useually depending on the genes of the child parents.

Your question should be why are white people white. Remember we (humans) originated in the rift valley of eastern Africa. So the first humans had dark skin. The darkness of the skin is dependent on a chemical called melanin (which we all have, including white people). Anyway, the answer is that there was a single mutation in one of the genes that makes melanin which resulted in a drop in production - and hence white people were born.

Africa is very near the equator and is therefore more exposed to the sun. The sun makes people there dark. Have you seen a dark eskimo?

Skin pigmentation has a lot to do with the region in which you live. Africa has a very hot and dry climate with lots of sun. Therefore their skin through the ages have adapted to that climate. Because of that they can withstand being in the sun much more than people of other climates.

well, its because they have too much melanine(skin pigmentation). Dont hav control over it- its genetic. But not all Africans are so dark--those living close to the equator are darker than others! Not all are darker for instance, in ma country(Botswana) most of them are fair n hav very beautiful skin tone as well as mine! I'm an African n remember Africa is a continent!

the colour of the skin depends on the amount of the pigment(coloured biochemical) in the skin cells the people in africa have a maximum amount of melanin in their skin cells hence the skin is so dark they belong to the human race -- namely the negroids and are collectively known as the negroes the white people are known as the caucasoids and have no melenin the skin cells containing the melanin are known as the melanocytes

I think that in other parts of the world there is so much intermingling of races that the people we call 'black' actually have many different skin tones. But in Africa, there are people who only have black ancestors and so their skin is much darker.
