If I understand your question correctly you want to improve your ability to understand spoken English? Well if you are living in the U.S.A. go to your public library--the children's section usually has books that have been recorded. You listen to the tape that reads the book while you read the book and turn the pages. That way you get a visual cue with your auditory response. You understand exactly how words are to be pronounced. There are also books on tape in the adult section but some of those are abridged so you can't read the book while you listen.

Of course as my son's French teacher says--the best way to learn a language is to actually speak it! So as embarassing as it is, go out there and try to have conversations with English speaking people. Of course some people "won't have the time" (there's nasty people everywhere) but others will like to help especially if you tell them what you are trying to learn. Ideas include, asking people for directions even when you know the way to go or how to do something. Good Luck!
