Why are Israel and Lebanon fighting? Do you think a world war will erupt from this region?

Who can state with clarity, dear..Have you checked the appalling pictures at yahoo. main page? They "talk" for itselfs and by the way they have a long lasting conflict. Israeli militaries has nothing to do in Lebanon ,what remained to their air attacks..!!

This is an interesting question that provoke so many good answers. Like many answerers, Israel and Lebanon are fighting for the claim of the land they are living in. Seems Israel came later than the Lebanese, with the claim that this land is promised to them by God.
It seems the US is engaging in many wars again Arab nations recently since Afghanistan, Iraq, and possibly Iran soon, judging from the involvements of both the US and Iran in the issues of Nuclear Weapon and Israel-Lebanese conflicts.
The ties between the US and Israel is undeniable and of course it will lead to war, but I would think it is not a world war from the look of things, like the Russia and the Chinese seem not interested in being too much involved in these conflicts. Only the British and the US are.
But when it comes to North Korean, I would think that China and perhaps to a lesser extend Russia may be dragged into it, and that is when the Global war will start. Don't think any nations in the middle-east can match US-Israel fire power, believe it or not only these two has the Nuclear capabilities. Arab countries do not stand a chance, and that they also are divided, intentionally or unintentionally by the US. That's why they can only fight in term of terrorism. The conflicts will drag on for years to come and the US should know better than engaging with China at this point or any point in time to come.

Well where do you start! The Israeli! people have been fighting different countries for years now Lebanese, Syrian, Egyptian. I believe it stems from WW2 when the Palastians were made refuges from their homeland , so that the Jews had somewhere to live after the holocaust. So periodically all the surrounding countries fight the Israeli people. I was reading about it last night out of curiosity, like yourself.

The strange thing is that Israel is such a small country in comparison to it's neighbours yet when war breaks out the Israeli people kick ***...I believe this is possible because the Americans are heavily in bed with Israeli people, so their armies are state of the art.

Now ask yourself why are the Americans interested in Israel?
Could it be because most of the high powered people in America, and the American film industry have Jews decent in them? I don't know, I am not an expert on these matters. It does need more reading though. Just for your knowledge I have no real religious beliefs and I do nor hate Americans...Been there twice and loved it.

They are both fighting because Hezbollah kidnapped 2 Israeli soldiers to exchange them with women and children prisoners.

I think both Israel and Hezbollah are crazy terrorist maniac, for gods sake no one want to start a war why don’t u both kill each other and go to hell… leave alone the Lebanese and the Israel ppl out of it. There is so many innocent ppl dying out there. The US must stop cheering up for Israel government they r just funding some stupid terrorist government.

why are they fighting ? it ' s not the question . but the question should be : how many arabic countries would be involved in this war ?
the 3rd war is coming , no way to prevent it .
muslims and not only arabs will fight against the evil spirit ,
from indonesia to palestine ,from the east to the west , all the muslims will fight even if they are not well armed ,
we ' ll fight with our bodies .

Israel and Lebanon are now fighting because Hezbollah is a terrorist organization allied with Hamas another terrorist organization. Hezbollah involved itself by kidnapping Israeli soldiers, just like the Palestinian Hamas did earlier. Its very clear to me that Lebanon joined sides with the combatant Palestinians...now I hope the Israelis pound them back to before the stone age (given their level of existence, they were not much better than stone agers there to start). I am so sick of Arab terrorists that I favor paving over the middle east and turning it into the world's parking lot. We should be rid of these damned terrorists once and for all.

Not a world war, a local war i think. You have to remember, Israel gave back hundreds of prisoners before in exchange for a couple of their own, so the animal terrorists think they can keep doing the same till Israel releases the terrorists to prey on decent people again. Of course, with the death penalty, this wouldn't happen.

Because it is a well known fact that Lebanon is Hezbollah's "Godfather", and is responsible for their actions. Syria also supports Hezbollah, and may well become part of the fighting, thus bringing fears of an possible WW3.

Bush stated in his comments about war on terror that any nation harboring terrorist groups are the enemy. We know many Islamic nations not only harbor them, they fund them. If it werent for those governments the terrorist groups would not exist.

Because bombs routinely rain in on Israel from Lebanon. Iran is at the root of this & really 9/11 - they are the spiritual fountainhead that underlies the militant Islamic movement. We're in WWIV, WWIII was the cold war.
