Is there any way to improve its longevity? (I have a nylon stringed guitar)

The breakage is at the second fret. It could be a burr or nick, but it has happened with every guitar I've owned for the past 40 years.

It's usually the smallest "wound" string. If you are using steel wound nylon strings, you may want to try another brand. I like D'adderio strings on my acoustic, but I don't have a nylon string guitar.

You probably have a burr or sharp spot at the bridge or the nut. If you find a burr then you need to file it down. You should also lubricate the string slots on all of the strings at the nut. You can buy a string lubricant or you can use pencil lead as a lube.

Actually, it shouldn't. Where is your string breaking at (the nut, the bridge, near the tuner)? Make sure you are tuning correctly and then check the nut and bridge for sharp edges or spurs.

When I used to repair guitars, I had a small triangle file that I would use (CAREFULLY) to get rid of these burs that can sometimes cause string breakage.

It shouldn't. The high E is usually the thinnest string and it will break most frequently.

Check your tuning peg/machine head. Perhaps there is something wrong with it causing the D to break too often.

Get some real strings, and maybe you'll have better luck.
