Yes, but he wont be arrested and prosecuted for what he does on the pitch to a fellow player, thats difference, if he does something on the pitch then he gets a footballing punishement and or a fine, but outside if he did that then he could be charged for assaullt and would face a diferent type of punishement. So i do not think Zidane should/would be arrested for GBH for what he did on the pitch.

Sportsmen rarely get into that kind of trouble for something done to a fellow sportsman.
Only if that incident has caused crowd trouble would the police have been involved, for example the Cantona Kung-Fu incident.
The other way Mr Zidane could be punished would be a private law suit. Mr Materazzi is unlikely to press charges, so unless one of the people scandalised at their children having seen such violence on such a stage decide to sue Mr Zidane, there's little chance of Mr Zidane getting away with more than 3 days community service.

I am not a footy fan but saw what took place and heard the reason for that.
As the man was one of their best players I think the insult said to hm was deliberate and had the desired effect. No I don't think arrested, and having to leave the field would have been punishment enough.
The person who goaded him into the violent action should be chastised for vulgarity and recial preduice on the field. If they can't play footy without racial preduice then off they go.

Zidane should not be arrested at all. Fifa should get both of them and ask what exactly when there.
They should feel the feelings of Zidane keeping his good football background in the mind.
But for that you need big and good heart. Fifa does not have that.

What have you got against Zindane? What about Figo?He was caught on camera head butting as well. Why aren't you making as much fuss about him. What about all the two legged fouls from the back that could have broke a players leg?Its Matarazzi that should be arrested for his comments.Zindane is a hero,he only did what any man would do,that is defend his family. That is our job to protect the family.

good question this is something that has angered me for sometime letting fifa deal with these things alone is wrong these people are watched by thousands and even millions of people including young children and it seems OK that because it is on a sports Field it is acceptable i think they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and if it happens during a game they should be banned from playing football for life that would stamp it out it was horrible to watch as was Eric cantonas flying kick just disgusting behaviour i am a Liverpool fan and if any player did that i would not want them to be associated with the club we have worked hard to rid football of violence and now players are promoting it come down hard on them i say

No. If an approved body is discipling the police will take that body take its course.
However, I think that Zidane's head butt was provoked and he is still my hero. He is the best footballer around, and if the flipside of that is that paparazzi has to be head butted (Materazzi is no angel), i'll take that. With fries.

I doubt you would have been arrested. You would probably have ended up in a street brawl. Then you might have been arrested, but only if the police got there in time.

In a professional sport, you'd think both would have sense to just get on with the job. It has only lowered my estimation of soccer. As always, the actions of a few have tainted the whole. Shocking behaviour from both players.
