Most of the damage around the planet is caused by acts of faith. Acts of violence, supression, intolerence and inhumanity are committed without reason but are usually motivated by faith and belief.
This faith or belief is often religious in nature but can also be a secular faith, as in a political belief that cannot withstand reason or a faith without evidence that the achievement of a particular goal , such as the removal of political leaders or the control of another nation/resource/group will result in a favourable outcome.

I do not think there is a cure. Mankind has developed the need to be a follower of something that is greater than the self even though it is the self that commits to the faith and so the deed. Phew that was a long sentance!
Using your word infection, I wonder if the virus can be restricted in its spread?
Fear is the greatest spreader of this kind of virus, often brought about by jealousy of anothers greed.
Having faith in life is a good virus. After all the most important thing about life is life iteslf and the rest is our support for living.

We cannot change it. Life is here to challenge us and this is one of life's challenges. To remove faith would create a major in-balance in the world. The only thing we need to do is the educate each other about each others faiths and create understanding and conciliation. This can only be done by religious leaders. While faiths continue to not accept the validity of other faiths this will never happen. Eg Christians & Muslims say their way is the only way while many Pagans (less evangelical) will accept other peoples faiths as a personal journey. I wish we could ban evangulism as everyone would be much happier and less people would be offended but its not ever goning to happen.

my friend , this is the key to solving most humanity problems, so much damage has been done in the name of god. however you will find it an impossible task to rid mankind of religion and faith , and even when people Did not fight based on religion they Fought with faith in race , or territory.
having said all that , i think one important step is is secularism , i know you placed secularism as part of faith , but let us say it is a regulation method of faith , so you cannot commit atrocities in the name of your faith, you can believe what you want , but do not force it on someone Else , i cannot think of any better system that humanity has developed so for , definitely communism didn't work , because any one who believed in god became an enemy , so in conclusion:
no country should be based on a particular faith
people have the right to warship , but not to fault those of other faiths
second step we have to all understand as a mankind that we live in the same boat , if we damage a a part of it we will all sink

There would be more harmony among people if they all understood there own religions more. You can't preach something you don't truly understand. If God created everyone and everything, why is there a need to fight for his ownership? Religious conflicts around the world are caused by those who least understand the essence of religion and God's nature. Why can't people identify with God however they feel is appropriate for them. Do you think God is so shallow that he cares how people worship him? It's better to be an Atheist and live a good life in harmony with others than 'pretend' to follow religion and act righteous whenever it suits you.

Faith can't be removed because people need faith ironically they need it to deal with the problems that the faith of others have caused

The problem isn't with people wanting to have their religion.
The problem is with people who want you and me to have their religion.
When religion is kept private, it's okay, but when some loony tune tries to put it in school or in government, they need to be shot down and shut down (verbally, not by gunfire).
