I just read a poll on Yahoo news saying 24% of you were going to vote Democrat. They said the reason was that Republican voters are not happy with the way the party is going. I ask all of you who Republicans who are not going to vote Republican to vote Libertarian. That main problem most Republicans have with the government outside of the war is big goverment. If you are trying to send a message you are not happy, the results will be the same if you vote Democrat or Libertarian; Republicans will lose and the Democrats will win. Republicans will try and adopt policies of the party they lost their voters too. I would rather have them adopt Libertarian views than become Democrats.

iyla: Parties change over time so you can have the same views and another party may better represent them. My view is government should be as small as possible and many Republicans thought that way in the 80's. Times have changed as so has the party so I adopted many what is now considered Libertarian Views.
werk2much20: Tell me how to get Bush to stop spending so much money and I will do it. Parties platforms change based on what their constituencies want. You let them know what you want by voting. Sure you can write letters but as long as you refuse to change parties and are a guaranteed vote you are no longer considered important and niether are your views. This is why politicians cater toward radical voters during primaries and moderate voters during the actual election.
rerugged: I agree all polls are flawed but the normally have some truth. The fact is there is a lot of Republicans pissed off at their party right now. Libertarians are Americas third largest party.

The problem is not republican vs dem vs libertarian - the problem is single party rule. Voting third party is a great idea and I would really recommend it if we had instant runoff voting, but we don't, so we need to elect the opposite party as a first step to bring back a little of our checks and balances. Splitting the opposition vote between dem and libertarian will result in electing republicans again. I would be saying the same thing if the positions were reversed - a party in charge of every branch of government just is unable to exercise self control, they try to accumulate too much power and spend too much money.

I say forget the polls entirely. If you did not make up the questions and analyze the results yourself, how do you know the poll is accurate. Polls are statistics. I learned, from Harry Truman, that there are lies, damned lies, and statistics.
When it comes time to vote, the greatest percentage of voters vote for specific candidates, as opposed to voting straight Republican or straight Democrat. Granted, we sometimes have to choose between the lesser of two evils.
I suspect that most voters don't know what "Libertarian" means and shy away from candidates in your party.

The Republican Party is learning it can not use the moral issues this time to divide the voters. Please stick to the issues, the war, the economy, lack of health care, the environment and education. The gay issue and flag burning are not what voters want to hear.

I dont buy all that at all......You change your party from within...not by voting for a different party and losing.
Losing is never a good thing....just ask the Democrats.

Goes to show it is issues not life styles that count. I am learning Arabic so I can know what my enemies might be saying instead ofspending my time being a self righteous ignorant hick.up in a pickup.

let's get real here. no-one just adopts the views of a party because they don't like another one. you agree with those views or you don't.
