MIPS = 1 Million Instructions Per Second (CPU operation speed)
TPS = Trangles Per Second (3D Graphics performance)

Pure speed is measured in GigaHertz. But speed alone does not tell you how fast a computer system will do the job you need done.

The worlds fastest supercomputers / clusters are measured in Terraflops. 1 terraflop = 1 trillion calculations per second (I think - verify with a search!)
